LIGHTINGS FROM THE PASTOR

January 8th, 2015

SUNDAY EVENTS:

SUNDAY MORNING.  Last week was an amazing day in God’s house.  I talked to someone on the phone this week and we agreed that we need to COME EXPECTING!  Will you pray for this Sunday to be another good day in God’s house?  I think it would be great if days like last week were the normal and NOT the exception.  This week we will be back in 1 Corinthians 13.  Read 4 – 10 several times between now and Sunday to prepare your heart for the message.

SUNDAY EVENING.  I will be preaching from 1 Corinthians 14 in the PM service.  I am asked from time to time what my position is on speaking in tongues.  That is what chapter 14 is about.  If that is a question you have, read chapter 14 Sunday afternoon and come at 6:00 PM and let’s look together at what Paul says.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER.  PRAYER IS THE KEY TO SPIRITUAL BREAKTHROUGH!  That is what PRAYER MEETINGS ARE ALL ABOUT!    Prayer starts at 8:30 AM just off the gym for ladies and in the senior adult classroom for men (back hall in the new addition).

SUNDAY SCHOOL.  We STILL want to see our Sunday school grow.  Plan to make a little extra effort to be here at 9:30 for Sunday school and start a new area of spiritual growth in 2016!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SERVICES.  Adult Bible Studies, New Hope Discipleship class, teens, children’s ministry, music practice…….it all happens on Wednesday night.  Don’t miss out on a mid-week recharge to help you spiritually through the week.  Plan to come on Wednesday night.

CHOIR AND EASTER DRAMA.  Planning for the 2016 Easter Drama are already under way.  We need you to join the choir and start getting ready for Easter as well as Singing on Sunday mornings.  I am very aware that this is a time commitment.  But the whole point of this is to reach unsaved from all over southern Iowa with the gospel.  What is your commitment to Christ when it comes to your time, energy, and talent?  This is a ministry of the church, this is your chance to be a part of something bigger than yourself, bigger than any of us!  Thank you in advance for using your gifts for the glory of God.

FOOD PACKAGING.  We will begin packaging food again on Thursday, January 14th at 6:00 PM.  Please bring your kids and teach them that even a small effort on our part, makes a life saving difference to people all around the world!

MEN’S BREAKFAST.  The first men’s breakfast of 2016 will be tomorrow, January 9th at 7:00 AM.  Start the year off right by joining us for breakfast.  We are done at 8:00 AM so it does not take your day.  Try it.
