Lightings from the Pastor– 8 April

April 8th, 2016

UPCOMING EVENTS.  There are lots of things coming this Spring.  Watch the bulletin and read your e-mails. Here are a few to think about that are happening.

Men’s Breakfast is Saturday morning at 7:00 AM.  The big thing about his month’s breakfast is that we will be working on scholarships for seniors.  Please come and help us with that task.

Speaking of seniors, stop by the library and see the senior pictures for this year’s graduating seniors.

There are new Wednesday night Bible studies starting.  You need to be here.  Also, LADIES it is not too late to get in on the Thursday morning Bible study on the life of the Apostle Peter.  10:00 AM on Thursday.

Next Wednesday night the children’s department is going calling to get new kids here on Wednesday nights.  The next Wednesday the children’s department is having ice cream to welcome the new kids!!  Maybe you would like to help (as an adult) with this area of ministry?? See Pastor Donna.

Cowboy Church will be starting up soon.  If you ride horses or KNOW PEOPLE WHO DO, this is a great way to invite people to church!  More info coming soon.

We want to keep having a choir.  The drama is over but involvement in the music department is a year round opportunity to use your talent for God.  If you play or sing, please sign up (sign up sheets available in the foyer) and be a part!

We have a unique opportunity to have a 2 star general who fought in Afghanistan come and speak this fall.  We need to know there will be some people here in order to extend an invitation.  There will be a sign up sheet this Sunday to gauge interest in this event.  We need you to INVITE A VET to this event and let’s let our veterans know that they are not forgotten!  Sign up now so we can make plans accordingly.

Don’t forget Tuesday morning and Thursday evening prayer meetings.  If we lose focus on the importance of prayer, we will be “batting at the air” as Paul says.  The whole idea of VISION is based on SEEKING the will of God.  It is hard to say we are seeking God but are not PRAYING!

SUNDAY MORNING.  I will be preaching a sermon titled, “we need more than a vision statement.”  It is about how we FIND and DO the will of God without simply having a catchy phrase that doesn’t accomplish anything. PEOPLE make up the church.  That would be you and I!  There is no one else to be OUR CHURCH!

SUNDAY EVENING.  Come for Sunday night church and hear the word of God in a sermon titled, “unity comes with visionary purpose.”  This sermon deals with WHY we do what we do.  We need to hear both of these sermons as we make plans to minister to our world.

Not this week but NEXT Sunday, choir practice will be at 5:00 PM.  If you have not filled out a form saying you want to be a part of the music ministry…SHOW UP FOR CHOIR PRACTICE!!!  Someone will get you going in the right direction.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER.  PRAYER IS THE KEY TO SPIRITUAL BREAKTHROUGH!  That is what PRAYER MEETINGS ARE ALL ABOUT!    Prayer starts at 8:30 AM.  The ladies meet in a classroom by the gym (across from the kitchen). The men meet in the senior adult classroom (back hall in the new addition).  What happens in church often starts at these early prayer meetings.  Come be a part of it!

SUNDAY SCHOOL.  We are working to grow our Sunday school.  The new “Transitions” class for young adults has had to move to a larger room!!  Make a little extra effort to be here at 9:30 for Sunday school and start a new area of spiritual growth in 2016!

FOOD PACKAGING.  We started back last night and were able to finish a pallet that was started.  We will package food again on the 28th of April.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Please read this list slowly and prayerfully.  Thank you.

Several families are grieving the loss of loved ones and others are facing end of life issues.  Dick Allen’s sister passed away.  Bill Benjamin’s sister is very sick.  A young man was killed last week in a tragic accident.  Many people need prayer.

Let’s remember Peggy Hope.  She is at Oakwood in Albia and not doing very well.  Also Lola Keeney is there and seems to be doing quite well. Let’s pray for those who are not able to be in church anymore.

My wife’s 42 year old niece is having open heart surgery right now is Mississippi.  Her name is Kim.

Marty Hatfield is doing well but he is still walking with a walker.  He was at food packaging and prayer meeting on Thursday! PTL!!

Dan Johnson continues with his chemo but he has a dated at least “penciled” for surgery.  We are believing that God is using doctors in Dan’s battle with cancer but we also know HEALING is from the Lord so we do not think it is all about the doctors but we want God and the doctors to work together for Dan’s good.

A little girl 5 years old named AK, (I’m not sure how to spell her real name they call her AK) is in Omaha out of the hospital but staying with friends because she can’t go home yet (to Texas).  This family needs prayer.  They were from Moravia and used to go to church here.

Pray for Gary Kratzer. He was able to be at church last week so he is improving.  Thank the Lord!

Also, Ronnie (Red) Coffman still needs our prayers.  He is planning to be here Sunday!

Gary Hutcheson was here Thursday morning.  He seemed to be doing very well.  God is good!

A man named Mark Eddy from Centerville has late stage cancer.  He needs our prayer.

Let’s continue to pray for Keith Helmick.  Bonnie had him back to the doctor again last week.

Dan Brooks has started taking chemo.  Let’s pray for him.

Martha said their son,Tim Kratzer, is much better and back at work!!!  Thanks for the prayers.

My friend and brother pastor Bill Branson continues to need prayer.

Continue to pray for Jan Uitermarkt.

Ed and Laretta Seeley need our prayers for his shoulder and back and her eyes.

Gene and Pauline Nord continue to need prayer.

I know there are other needs, lift your needs to him today as well.

Come prayed up and EXPECTING THIS SUNDAY!  God wants to do great things!
